Most sons and daughters realize the gloomy roots of Christmas. For those who don't, it originated from the celebration of Saturnalia. It included many unholy things such as gluttony, filty lucre, debauchery and even torture. Early Christians in the Roman Empire seeked to blend this holiday with a celebration of our Lord's birth in an effort to win followers. Today, we say that when we celebrate this holiday it is for the express reason of celebrating the birth of Jesus, Christ, Yeshua, Yahshua (or whatever name you know Him as). I think those of us who know better say this to justify participating in the fabulous ceremonies and “glee” of the season. I’m not saying that there is no good there, because I know that God can make anything good, but why (if we choose to celebrate) can’t we celebrate the holiday in the spirit we profess it represents? Why must we go bankrupt giving extravagant gifts and break our backs putting up trees, decorations and lights? Why must we succumb year after year to gluttony and drunkenness? There is nothing holy about that. I believe we can celebrate our Lord during Christmas, but we need to reevaluate how we do it.
Personally, Christmas is a very important holiday in my extended family and it will take lots of prayer, and determination to go against the grain, but each year I am forced to come face to face with the reality of what this holiday is and how we hold to customs that are far from pure. I will not try to offend or disrespect anyone, but God is forcing me to see truth. I think this is a part of living in the Nazarite Spirit! Much peace, love and respect to you all!
Going Before the King

*Esther 4:16*...and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according
to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
There are times in all of our lives when...

I agree, I think more than commercialized, Christmas has become less about the birth of Christ and more about the "things" we acquire. I think it should be a day to reflect on the goodness and grace of God. He truly gave the only gift that matters when He sent His son Jesus to die for our sins, what more do we need to recieve or give than that. It is hard to be the one to change of stop a tradition, which I have no problem with the family coming together in celebration of the King, however must we buy all those expensive gifts. I think if we do exchange gifts, it should not be the highlight of the day. I also think that if we begin to teach the youngest generation the true true meaning of the season that we can break the misconceptions of what christmas has become.
First of all, thank you for your comment! I definitely agree that we need to teach the younger ones the truth. If we are to celebrate Christmas then we should uplift and remember our Lord and Savior, Jesus! Not just reflect on the things we gave and get.
You spoke a lot of truth. Spoken like a true Hebrew. I, like you, am starting to see this Holiday for what it really is which to me has come to be full of non-Holy customs and traditions. There is no evidence in the Bible that Yahushua (Jesus) celebrated his birth. So why do we? This holiday brings debt and depression to so many people. Why would YAH (God) want us caught up in this sort of thing. HE doesn't!! Come Out of Her My People!!
All praises to The Father! I ask also: "For a day to be considered so holy, why so much emphasis on "things"?" So, yes, you speak the truth by revealing an increase of debt and depression. The thought that came to me was: death. These things are just the opposite of love and light.
Well spoken my sister. I stopped celebrating Christmas the traditional way in 1997. I have taught my children the the truth. My parents still celebrate the traditional way, but my mom's eyes are being opened. Keeping speaking the truth.
