Simplicity
Last night, my husband and I were watching a show on the Travel Channel about tribal culture. The more we watched, the more we understood the pureness of the people. These people were aware of how the outside world was, but they chose to be different. I saw the Nazarite Spirit in them. They consciously choose not to take part in modern technology, clothes, things etc. that could cause them to lose their simple way of life. In fact, they took pride in living simply. We saw so much beauty in their ways. They gave thanks for EVERYTHING!!! It was so inspiring. It caused us to reflect on how often we forget to give thanks. Their simplicity made us see how unsimple our lives are and how much we rely on modern technology and unecessary things in our life - even though we are striving to simplify. These people are so wise, thankful and giving. It is so sad that when most people look at them all they can see is the poor, ignorant, and even what many call "uncivilized". I think they are the most civilized people I have seen in a while. They have set rules and are highly cooperative with one another. I pray that more of us will "see" these people and learn from them. Amen.

I don't think I have seen that particular episode, but I recognize what you mean like when I watch a tribal show on natgeo or it may be discovery. Anyway, it is a simple life that is hard to explain. I believe a lot of the thing people cry about like houses, cars, credit and so forth are not needed at all. yet in our society we are led to believe we are less if we do not have more. i think this is so sad. we have to have a car, a house, and so forth and so on to survive. it really is not so. when i read the bible and they mention something so simple as someone is making soup, i often think how different it was for them to make that soup than the convenient ways we have today. how fortunate that we can buy a noodle soup in a container and just add water pop it in the microwave for a few min and it is done. we take all of this for granted. i believe that we have been brought up in a society where our convenience outweighs anything else and it all just really goes back to selfishness. we are so selfish that we think to live a few seconds of our lives being inconvenienced will kill us. it is the reason a lot of us get angry about a lot of things; think about it; you are in line at you favorite fast food place, (even the need for a fast food place, cries out to our selfishness) and the person in front of you is having a hard time making up their minds about what they want. they keep changing their minds or just have no clue what they feel like getting, if you are directly behind that person you may be fuming and the cashier is probably at her wits end. then what if that person leaves without buying a thing, we really get mad then. it all about our convenience levels, are my needs being met every minute of the day, that is what people want. they want everything fast and then faster. they do not want to wait the few minutes it may take to load the computer screen, they do not want to wait in traffic, everything right now, that is what we want. this society clearly could not live in an environment where they would have to kill their own food or gather their own grapes so that they could make wine. this would just not be convenient. in a society where going to the convenience store sometimes constitutes as grocery shopping, there is no way in the world we would ever be able to survive in the days even as recent as Jesus, not to mention Abrahams days. we are spoiled, inconsiderate people, no matter if you are poor or rich. we all need to ween ourselves off of the products that we think define us, like our cars, televisions, computers, etc...
What you said is so true and beautiful. I love how you pointed out that our using fast food and convenience stores gives evidence of our selfishness. What an eye opener!
